Basic Properties
Nitrile Rubber is a light brown elastomer with a molecular weight of about 700,000 and excellent stability to aliphatic hydrocarbon oils and gasoline due to the strong polar CN group. And it is classified according to the ACN content.
Extremely high NBR: ACN content over 43%.
High NBR: 36%-42% ACN content
Medium-high NBR: 31%-35% ACN content
Medium NBR: 25%-30% ACN content
Low NBR: ACN content less than 24%
General performance
NBR has better heat resistance, it is better than Natural Rubber and styrene butadiene rubber, the long-term use temperature can reach 100 degrees Celsius, 120 ℃ can be used for 40 days.
1.Ozone resistance is worse than CR and better than NR.
2.By reinforcing the rubber to give better physical and mechanical properties and abrasion resistance.
3.When the acrylonitrile content of NBR is 39%, the airtightness is comparable with IIR rubber, and the airtightness is better.
4.Low temperature flexibility is general.
5.Excellent antistatic property.
6.The effect of plasticizing with polar lipids is better.
7.Good compatibility with polar substances, such as PVC, alkyd resin, nylon.
8.Low self-adhesion, high heat generation in mixing process.
Excellent oil resistance
NBR rubber is one of the most representative rubbers among the excellent comprehensive properties such as oil resistance, physical and mechanical properties and chemical resistance, and the effective utilization of these properties can make it satisfy a variety of uses. Among the general-purpose rubbers, NBR rubber's resistance to benzene, petroleum-based oils and non-polar solvents is much better than that of non-polar rubbers such as NR, SBR, IIR, etc., and also better than that of polar CR, but NBR's resistance to polar solvents and polar oils is not good enough.
Effect of ACN content on performance
With the increase of ACN content NBR polarity increases, chain flexibility decreases, the inter-chain interaction force increases, the double bond content within the molecular chain decreases, and the degree of saturation increases, which also causes a series of performance changes, its oil resistance, airtightness, and abrasion resistance increases, while the processability and cold resistance decreases.
